Community Gateway offers services and support to a wide range of people in the community. We work with people with disability, older people, carers, youth groups, individuals and community orgnisations.
Our team will assist you to identify appropriate funding and eligibility requirements. Our services and programs are also available at very affordable rates for people who are not eligible for government funding.
We partner with people to get the most out of their individual packages, including preparing for the NDIS, providing flexibility, choice and widest range of services with a team matched to your needs and wants and who are ready to support your plans and goals.

Jan Wetherall is a Registered Nurse/Case Manager with over 30 years experience working in the community sector specialising in aged and disability care. Jan has built up her extensive knowledge of the sectors working in senior positions for various community organisations. Jan also has established commercial experience having successfully operated her own family business in the manufacturing sector. Jan is passionate about high quality person centred support for people with disability and the aged which is why she joined the Community Gateway Board. Jan has served on the Community Gateway Board for nine years and is the current Chairperson
Trevor Phillis is a retired Senior Human Resources Professional having worked in private industry for many years before consulting to organisations in the tertiary, government, industrial, commercial and not for profit sectors. He is committed to making a difference in the community and through his experience in the private, government, not for profit and institutional organisations both in Australia and New Zealand brings a vast knowledge of managing organisations from development of strategic and business plans through to monitoring performance of those plans.
Sharon Post is a finance professional with extensive experience in the financial services industry. Specialising in technology from a finance perspective focused on implementation and change management with significant senior executive stakeholder management experience.
Jenny Wallace is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years public practice experience. Her specialty is providing business services for small to medium sized enterprises. Jenny has a particular interest in the care and wellbeing of the aged and people with disability and was delighted to be invited to be part of the Board of Community Gateway. Jenny feels the organisation is a much needed resource and service provider to its clients and is committed to ensuring the future of this wonderful organisation.
John Rankin is a business improvement, safety leadership and project management training consultant. He has worked in organisations in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and The United States of America. John’s skills lie in process design, leadership facilitation and training, with a focus on the importance of understanding and fostering people relationships. His experience in aged and community care comes from working with a number of providers in NSW and Western Australia to develop strategy to successfully navigate the recent changes and working on a NSW Government funded program to develop the strategy by which the demand for aged care workers in the Illawarra can be met through 2020.
Felix Aasa is a retired accountant and real estate agent who holds a qualification in accounting from the University of Wollongong and has held a number of financial and accounting roles in employment including Financial Controller for a family owned business. He served on the board of a prominent aged care facility in Southern Sydney for 15 years and as a mentor and director of a youth outreach centre for Project Youth, Miranda Police, PCYC Sutherland and Caringbah Baptist Church. He currently serves on the board of a long day care centre in Wollongong and volunteers preparing and cooking meals each week for a community food van. Chief Executive Officer
Craig Thomson is a specialist change management leader, having led major transformation projects within the Government, private and not-for-profit sectors, both domestically and internationally. This includes the transformation of two leading disability NFPs into customer-centric businesses ready for the NDIS-created disability marketplace. A proven business builder, Craig has achieved significant revenue and profitability increases in the leadership positions he has held. This has been achieved by building client numbers and diversifying into new markets and/or developing new service streams within existing markets. In addition, Craig has led four major amalgamations/mergers. His qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Accounting, Economics, Business Law) and he is a Certified Practicing Accountant.
Director Corporate Services
John Stack has broad-based financial and corporate experience through employment in banking and senior corporate financial roles spanning a period of more than 20 years. He has held responsibility for the oversight of the financial management of large organisations with geographically dispersed operations operating in diverse and highly regulated sectors. John has been part of organisations during period of growth and change. He has led the development of financial management systems and processes, technology, compliance, risk and governance systems. John’s qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Master of Commerce (Finance), Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance and Graduate Diploma Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also a Certified Practicing Accountant and Justice of the Peace.
Director HRM, Quality & Risk
Patricia Smith has developed and managed Quality Management Systems in many organisations, both within Government and the not-for-profit sectors. She has been instrumental in developing a continuous improvement culture within Community Gateway, which has been key to ensuring it is achieving its quality targets and providing high levels of client satisfaction. Patricia’s insightful and innovative approach to HR management has assisted in implementing two major restructures within Community Gateway and ensured a strategic approach to recruitment and retention enabling Community Gateway to overcome the challenges of a limited workforce pool. Her qualifications include Bachelor of Commerce (Management), Graduate Diploma in Aged Care Management and Graduate Certificate in Management of Not-for-Profit Organisations. She is also a Justice of the Peace.
Tegan Bezzina has a Bachelor Degree in Population Health and is a Case Manager with over nine years experience working in social and community services. Tegan specialises in aged and disabilities care, however; has also had experience in the child protection and out of home care sector. Tegan commenced her work with Community Options in 2010 and has since spent time as a Team Leader prior to progression into her current position as Manager Operations for Community Gateway. Tegan is passionate about making a difference to the lives of people with a disability and those who are ageing and is committed to the future of Community Gateway.
Director Business Excellence
Aaron Keft is a passionate business leader who loves working within organisations who assist people in living better lives. He has a diverse professional background including leading large business portfolios in the Health, Aged Care and Defence fields in both the private and Not for Profit sectors. His management philosophy is to create happy and engaged teams in order to create happy and engaged clients. Highlights of his career include starting a paramedical venture from scratch and growing it into a multi-million dollar business as well as leading a NFP community Nursing organisation as Chair of the board. His qualifications include a Master of Business, Bachelor of Business & Mental Health First Aid Certification.
